Der Neue hat wie dieser einen Heckmotor \u2013 der 270 Stundenkilometer schnelle Reihen-Vierzylinder-Vierventiler wird von Weber-Doppelvergasern gef\u00fcttert und leistet jetzt 250 PS bei 8700 U\/min \u2013 und eine neu gestaltete Karosserie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Der neue Zweiliter startet jedoch nicht bei den Prototypen, sondern wird vom Reglement als Sportwagen eingestuft. Das setzt eine Produktion von 25 Exemplaren pro Jahr voraus und bedeutet, dass bei der Auswahl der technischen Komponenten Kompromisse bez\u00fcglich Gewicht und Technologie gemacht werden. Damit gibt die Turiner Manufaktur den Kunden ein haltbares und problemlos zu wartendes Ger\u00e4t an die Hand. Am 1. April 1969 erfolgt die Homologation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1968 siegt der \u00d6sterreicher Johannes Ortender in der Sportwagenwertung des Europa-Bergchampionats. F\u00fcr die 1969er Saison bedeutet der Sportwagenstatus, dass Abarth gegen\u00fcber dem kompromisslos gebauten Ferrari 212 im Nachteil ist und zeitweise Abst\u00e4nde von mehr als 20 Sekunden akzeptieren muss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Das schm\u00e4lert den Erfolg nicht. Vor allem der italienische Rennfahrer Arturo Merzario hat den Heckmotor-Rennwagen gut im Griff und f\u00e4hrt beeindruckende Resultate ein.
