Besonders zum Wankel-Antrieb, dessen Vorteile wie geringeres Gewicht, kleinerer Raumbedarf, vibrationsarmer Lauf und dessen geringere Anzahl an Bauteilen im Vergleich zu einem herk\u00f6mmlichen Hubkolbenmotor die Dokumentation umfassend w\u00fcrdigt.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Im September 1967 stellen die Neckarsulmer den NSU Ro 80 nach f\u00fcnfj\u00e4hriger Entwicklungsarbeit der \u00d6ffentlichkeit in den Frankfurter Messehallen vor \u2013 als erstes Serienauto der Welt mit einem Zweischeiben-Wankelmotor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die sportliche Reiselimousine setzt neue Ma\u00dfst\u00e4be in Stra\u00dfenlage, Sicherheit, Komfort und Leistung. Seine keilf\u00f6rmige Karosserie-Linie mit flacher Frontpartie, tiefliegender, leicht ansteigender G\u00fcrtellinie und dem hochgezogenen Heck erm\u00f6glicht einen cW-Wert von 0,35 \u2013 und pr\u00e4gt \u00fcberdies eine von den Zeitgenossen als futuristisch wahrgenommene Gesamterscheinung.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Der Mut der Neckarsulmer, mit dem Ro 80 ein in vielerlei Hinsicht revolution\u00e4res Auto auf den Markt zu bringen, wird belohnt: Ein Jahr nach seiner Einf\u00fchrung w\u00e4hlen internationale Fachjournalisten den NSU Ro als erstes deutsches Automobil zum \u201eAuto des Jahres\u201c; er ist damit das erste deutsche Automobil, das diese Auszeichnung erh\u00e4lt. Nachhaltiger wirtschaftlicher Erfolg will sich jedoch nicht einstellen: 1973 treibt die \u00d6lkrise die Benzinpreise in die H\u00f6he, die Kunden bevorzugen deshalb sparsamere Autos \u2013 dies bedeutet das Ende des Kreiskolbenantriebs und damit das Ende f\u00fcr den NSU Ro 80. Er wird von 1967 bis 1977 im Werk Neckarsulm produziert, wo zum Auslaufen des Modells im Jahr 1977 bereits die Fertigung des Audi 100 den gr\u00f6\u00dften Teil der Kapazit\u00e4ten auslastet.
