Stattdessen stand der rote Wagen auf einem AC-Cobra-Rohrrahmen, der von Carroll Shelby Enterprises in Kalifornien bezogen wurde. Das Chassis wurde dann modifiziert, weil der leistungsstarke 289er Ford-Motor im Chassis nach hinten versetzt werden sollte. Der Antriebsstrang bestand aus einem leistungsstarken 260 PS-V8-Motor, der mit einem Vierganggetriebe verbunden war und von Hand geschaltet wurde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dem Cougar II wurden Geschwindigkeiten von bis zu 270 Kilometer pro Stunde zugeschrieben. Wenn der Luftdruck in der Fahrgastzelle ein Bar \u00fcberschritt, \u00f6ffnete sich automatisch eine Entlastungsklappe an der R\u00fcckseite der Fahrgastzelle. Diese Klappe verhinderte, dass bei hohen Geschwindigkeiten durch den extremen Druck die Heckscheibe zerspringen k\u00f6nnte. Der Cougar verf\u00fcgte au\u00dferdem \u00fcber einen neuartigen federgesteuerten Fensterhebermechanismus, mit dem die gew\u00f6lbten Seitenscheiben verstellt werden konnten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Das Coup\u00e9 war als Antwort auf die leistungsstarken und wendigen Ferrari gedacht und das sch\u00f6nste der drei X-Cars, hatte aber den geringsten Einfluss auf das Serien-Styling.
