Dieses zweisitzige Coup\u00e9 ist eines von zwei aus dem Jahr 1953, die von Ghia entworfen und gebaut wurden und auf zahlreichen europ\u00e4ischen Automobilausstellungen zu sehen waren. Das Turiner Studio wollte nach der erfolgreichen Kooperation mit Chrysler auch anderen amerikanischen Herstellern zeigen, wie gut italienische Karosserien zu einem amerikanischen Chassis passen w\u00fcrden, denn in den fr\u00fchen 1950er Jahren konnte Ghia durch Vertr\u00e4ge mit der Chrysler Corporation seinen Kundenstamm erheblich erweitern. Firmen-Chef Luigi Segre nahm General Motors in den Blick und bestellte dort zwei Cadillac Series 62 Chassis, die Basis f\u00fcr das werden sollten, was Ghia als eigene Kernkompetenz sah: exzellente Handwerkskunst, in Verbindung mit niedrigen Herstellungskosten machten viele attraktive Einzelanfertigungen m\u00f6glich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Das Auto basierte technisch auf dem Cadillac Series 62 und war luxuri\u00f6s ausgestattet. Es hatte eine Servolenkung, elektrische Fensterheber, elektrisch verstellbare Sitze, eine automatische Antenne, ein Radio mit Stationstasten, Bremskraftverst\u00e4rker, get\u00f6ntes Glas und das so genannte \u201eAutronic Eye\u201c, das das Licht in der D\u00e4mmerung automatisch einschaltete und bei entgegenkommendem Verkehr automatisch das Fernlicht abblendete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Der Auftritt des Coup\u00e9s auf den internationalen Automobilausstellungen wurde zum Erfolg, weil der damalige Ehemann der Hollywood-Diva Rita Hayworth, Aly Khan, Sohn von Aga Khan III, das Auto, vom Messestand weg kaufte und seiner Frau schenkte. Obwohl, trotz des noblen Geschenks, die Scheidung auf dem Fu\u00df folgte, ist der Wagen bis heute als Rita Hayworth Cadillac bekannt und befindet sich in der Sammlung des Petersen Automotive Museums in Los Angeles<\/p>\n\n\n\n
