Die Fabrikanten nutzen jede Gelegenheit, die Leistungsf\u00e4higkeit ihrer Wagen unter Beweis zu stellen, und wie ginge das besser als mit Geschwindigkeits- und Ausdauerrekorden? Daf\u00fcr werden zun\u00e4chst 1907 die englische Brooklands-Bahn, dann in den 1920er-Jahren die AVUS in Berlin, die Strecke im italienischen Monza und das Oval im franz\u00f6sischen Montlh\u00e9ry gebaut.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Renaults Trumpfkarte ist der gewaltige 40 CV. Das Spitzenmodell wird seit Baubeginn 1910 immer weiter verfeinert und spielt in der gleichen Liga wie Hispano Suiza und Isotta-Fraschini. Die letzte Ausbaustufe ist ab 1924 der NM, dessen wassergek\u00fchlte sechs Zylinder eine Leistung von 140 PS aus einem Hubraum von 9123 cm\u00b3 sch\u00f6pfen. Das ist sportlich, und deshalb geht es 1925, zun\u00e4chst im Serientrimm, zum Autodrome de Linas-Montlh\u00e9ry, um Rekorde zu brechen. Das Fahrergespann Ellery Garfield und Robert Plessier stellt mit einem offenen Tourer am 11. Mai Rekorde \u00fcber drei Stunden, sechs Stunden, 500 Kilometer und 500 Meilen auf. Am 3. und 4. Juni 1925 f\u00e4llt der 24-Stunden-Weltrekord: die gefahrene Distanz von 3384,749 km entspricht einer Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit von 141,031 Stundenkilometern.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aber es soll noch schneller werden. Der NM wird deshalb zum Stromlinien-Coup\u00e9 umgebaut. Dessen Stirnfl\u00e4che ist besonders schmal, denn der gro\u00dfe Renault ist jetzt ein echter Einsitzer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vom 9. bis zum 10. Juli 1926 stellen Garfield, Plessier und Paul Guillon mit 4167,578 Kilometern eine neue Bestmarke \u00fcber 24 Stunden auf \u2013 auch die Rekorde \u00fcber 1000 und 2000 Meilen sowie \u00fcber 2000, 3000 und 4000 Kilometer fallen. Der Durchschnitt liegt bei fantastischen173,649 km\/h.
