Arkus-Duntov, 1909 in Belgien geboren und in Europa technisch gepr\u00e4gt, wurde zur entscheidenden Figur f\u00fcr die technische Entwicklung der Chevrolet Corvette. Unter seiner Leitung entstanden technische Meilensteine wie die Einspritzung, die das Leistungsniveau der Corvette Mitte der 1950er-Jahre deutlich anhob. Die Fahrzeuge wurden sorgf\u00e4ltig vorbereitet, erhielten verst\u00e4rkte Bremsen, optimierte K\u00fchlkreisl\u00e4ufe und Modifikationen zur Verbesserungen de Standfestigkeit. Der Start verlief vielversprechend. Die Nummer 1 schied jedoch bereits fr\u00fch aus, weil der Wagen bei einem Regenschauer von der Strecke rutschte. Die Nummer 2&nbsp; sollte das Tempo hochhalten und Druck auf die Konkurrenz aus\u00fcben. 207 Runden lang erf\u00fcllte sie diese Aufgabe, bis ein Motorschaden das Aus bedeutete. Die dritte Corvette hingegen \u00fcberlebte. Das Fahrzeug k\u00e4mpfte \u00fcber Stunden hinweg mit massiven \u00dcberhitzungsproblemen, die das Team zum improvisieren. In den letzten Rennphasen f\u00fcllten die Mechaniker den Motorraum mit Trockeneis, um die Temperaturen zu senken und das \u00dcberleben des V8-Aggregats zu sichern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diese Mischung aus technischer Robustheit, Mut und Improvisation f\u00fchrte schlie\u00dflich zu einem historischen Ergebnis: Platz eins in der GT-Klasse und Gesamtrang acht gegen deutlich st\u00e4rkere europ\u00e4ische Konkurrenz. Der Erfolg von Cunningham und Arkus-Duntov verlieh der Corvette dauerhaftes internationales Ansehen und legte den Grundstein f\u00fcr die sp\u00e4tere Werksunterst\u00fctzung im Motorsport.
