Mit einem extrem kurzen Radstand von 2.250 Millimetern, inspiriert vom Lotus 72-Konzept, verfolgte der Wagen das Ziel eines besonders niedrigen Schwerpunkts, zentral geb\u00fcndelter Massen und maximalen Abtriebs. Die Proportionen \u2013 kurz, breit und flach \u2013 versprachen hohe Agilit\u00e4t auf verwinkelten Strecken sowie Stabilit\u00e4t \u00fcber Bodenwellen und Curbs. Markant war die volumin\u00f6se Frontpartie mit zwei gro\u00dfen NACA-Ducts, die Luft durch das Fahrzeuginnere an Fahrwerkskomponenten und K\u00fchler f\u00fchrten und seitlich wieder ausleiteten. Der so entstehende Venturi-Effekt vergr\u00f6\u00dferte die wirksame Unterbodenfl\u00e4che erheblich. Forghieri nutzte daf\u00fcr den Windkanal in Stuttgart. Zwei seitlich neben dem Fahrer platzierte Wasserk\u00fchler erm\u00f6glichten einen zentralen Kraftstofftank hinter dem Fahrer und lie\u00dfen Raum f\u00fcr einen vollwertigen Frontfl\u00fcgel \u2013 mit klaren Vorteilen f\u00fcr Massenverteilung und Aerodynamik. In Ans\u00e4tzen nahm der 312B3 damit Elemente moderner Endurance- und Formel-1-Fahrzeuge vorweg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Testarbeit in Fiorano \u00fcbernahmen Arturo Merzario und Jacky Ickx. Beide attestierten dem Wagen enormes Potenzial, beschrieben ihn jedoch als extrem schwierig zu fahren, insbesondere in engen Kurven. Am 10. September 1972 wurde der 312B3 beim Grand Prix von Italien in Monza vorgestellt. Journalisten tauften ihn wegen der wuchtigen Nase \u201eSpazzaneve\u201c \u2013 Schneepflug. Unter gro\u00dfem Druck meldete Ferrari das Auto zun\u00e4chst zum Rennen, zog es jedoch kurzfristig zur\u00fcck: Mechaniker warnten, ein Motorwechsel w\u00fcrde aufgrund der ungew\u00f6hnlichen Konstruktion mehr als acht Stunden dauern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kurz darauf wurde das Projekt eingestellt. Fiat und Ferrari versetzten Forghieri in die Experimentalabteilung, seine Position \u00fcbernahm Sandro Colombo. Zwar diente die B3-Basis 1973 weiter, jedoch in konventionellerer Form und mit einem in England gefertigten Monocoque \u2013 ohne durchschlagenden Erfolg. Erst Forghieris R\u00fcckkehr 1974 f\u00fchrte zur Wiederaufnahme zentraler Spazzaneve-Ideen und m\u00fcndete in der erfolgreichen T-Serie.
