Auf dem Turiner Autosalon pr\u00e4sentierte ItalDesign ein Konzeptfahrzeug, das neue Ma\u00dfst\u00e4be f\u00fcr Aerodynamik, Innenraumarchitektur und Hochleistungsantrieb setzte. Der Forschungsprototyp war konsequent auf Funktion und Form reduziert. Grundlage bildete ein von Giotto Bizzarrini entwickelter Rohrrahmen, der Leichtbau und hohe Verwindungssteifigkeit vereinte. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Als Antrieb diente ein leistungsstarker Chevrolet-V8-Einspritzmotor, der bis zu 400 PS entwickelte und in L\u00e4ngsrichtung unmittelbar hinter den Sitzen montiert war. Gekoppelt war das Aggregat an ein manuelles Vierganggetriebe. Die angestrebte H\u00f6chstgeschwindigkeit lag bei rund 330 km\/h.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eine der zentralen Innovationen des Manta war der Innenraum mit drei nebeneinander angeordneten Sitzen und einem mittig positionierten Fahrersitz. Diese L\u00f6sung erm\u00f6glichte optimale Sichtverh\u00e4ltnisse und eine ausgewogene Gewichtsverteilung. Die flache Bodenplatte schuf Raum f\u00fcr diese ungew\u00f6hnliche Sitzanordnung. Drei von innen verstellbare, jalousieartige Lamellen in der transparenten Frontpartie verbesserten die Fahrerposition, erleichterten Wartungsarbeiten an Bremsen, K\u00fchler und Batterien und optimierten die Innenraumbel\u00fcftung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Das Seitenprofil war glatt und str\u00f6mungsg\u00fcnstig ausgef\u00fchrt. Charakteristisch war die durchgehende Verglasung vom vorderen Kotfl\u00fcgel bis zum Motorraum, erg\u00e4nzt durch runde \u00d6ffnungen im T\u00fcrschweller als gestalterisches Detail. Aufgrund der kurzen Frontpartie waren die Scheinwerfer in die b\u00fcndig beginnende Fronthaube integriert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Am Heck setzte sich das radikale Konzept fort: Die fast vollst\u00e4ndig verglaste Heckpartie gab den Blick auf die Mechanik frei, Sto\u00dfstangen fehlten vollst\u00e4ndig, zwei Auspuffrohre unterstrichen den technischen Anspruch. Das Dach fiel sanft zur nahezu waagerechten Heckscheibe ab, der H\u00f6henunterschied zum \u00dcberrollb\u00fcgel betrug lediglich 137 Millimeter.
