W\u00e4hrend die zivile Version des 1600 GT mit 1,6-Liter-Twin-Cam-Motor und 95 PS sowie Starrachse auftrat, verf\u00fcgte die Wettbewerbsvariante \u00fcber eine leichte Zagato-Karosserie mit einer Einzelradaufh\u00e4ngung der Hinterachse und einen leistungsgesteigerten Motor. Der Wagen erhielt die Bezeichnung Tipo 1600 SP (Sperimentale).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Der 1.568 ccm gro\u00dfe Vierzylinder mit 80 mm Bohrung und 78 mm Hub leistete in finaler Ausbaustufe 145 PS bei 6.800\/min. Zwei Weber 45 DCO-Doppelvergaser, Twin-Spark-Z\u00fcndung und eine Verdichtung von 9,5:1 kennzeichneten das Triebwerk. Die Kraft\u00fcbertragung erfolgte \u00fcber ein Vierganggetriebe und eine Einscheibenkupplung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herzst\u00fcck war ein neu konstruierter Mehrrohr-Gitterrahmen. Die Radaufh\u00e4ngung bestand rundum aus unabh\u00e4ngigen Doppelquerlenkern mit Schraubenfedern, Teleskopsto\u00dfd\u00e4mpfern und Stabilisatoren. Hinten kamen zus\u00e4tzlich elliptische Federn zum Einsatz. Girling-Scheibenbremsen an allen vier R\u00e4dern sorgten f\u00fcr standfeste Verz\u00f6gerung. Bei nur 710 Kilogramm Trockengewicht und einem 100-Liter-Tank war der 1600 SP auf Langstreckeneins\u00e4tze wie die 24 Stunden von Le Mans ausgelegt.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wirtschaftliche Umst\u00e4nde verhinderten jedoch das Renndeb\u00fct. Die Maserati-Br\u00fcder mussten OSCA an Graf Giovanni Agusta verkaufen, dessen Interesse als Motorrad- und Flugzeughersteller, prim\u00e4r den Ingenieursleistungen galt. Die Entwicklung des 1600 SP2 wurde gestoppt, ein Renneinsatz fand nie statt. Mit dem Ausscheiden der Maserati-Br\u00fcder 1966 begann das Ende der Marke.
