Das Konzeptfahrzeug war als kompakter Mittelmotor-Zweisitzer ausgelegt und kombinierte eine kohlefaserverst\u00e4rkte Kunststoffkarosserie mit einem neu entwickelten 1,5-Liter-TDI-Vierzylinder. Bemerkenswert war die Abkehr von der damals bei Volkswagen \u00fcblichen Pumpe-D\u00fcse-Technik zugunsten einer modernen Common-Rail-Einspritzung \u2013 ein deutlicher Technologiesprung innerhalb der Dieselstrategie des Konzerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Der aufgeladene Selbstz\u00fcnder leistete 100 kW (136 PS) und stellte ein Drehmoment von \u00fcber 250 Nm bereit. In Verbindung mit einem Leergewicht von lediglich 850 Kilogramm ergaben sich beeindruckende Fahrleistungen: Der Sprint von 0 auf 100 km\/h gelang in 6,3 Sekunden, die H\u00f6chstgeschwindigkeit lag bei 230 km\/h. Gleichzeitig \u00fcberzeugte der EcoRacer mit einem Durchschnittsverbrauch von nur 3,4 Litern Diesel pro 100 Kilometer \u2013 ein Wert, der selbst Jahre sp\u00e4ter Ma\u00dfst\u00e4be setzte. Der EcoRacer lie\u00df sich mit wenigen Handgriffen in drei unterschiedliche Varianten konfigurieren. Als Coup\u00e9 pr\u00e4sentierte sich der Sportwagen mit geschlossener Karosserie und markanten, nach oben schwenkenden Dachfl\u00fcgeln. Entfernte man Dachh\u00e4lften, T-Bar und Heckhutze, entstand ein Roadster mit offenem Zweisitzer-Layout. Durch den Austausch der Frontscheibe gegen ein minimalistisches Windschutzmodul verwandelte sich das Fahrzeug schlie\u00dflich in einen puristischen Speedster. Dieses variable Konzept unterstrich den experimentellen Charakter der Studie und zeigte neue Wege in der Fahrzeugarchitektur auf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trotz seiner technischen Reife blieb der EcoRacer ein Einzelst\u00fcck.
