Angetrieben wurde das Topmodell von einem 1,6-Liter-16V-Motor (TU5J4), der 88 kW (120 PS) bei 6.600 U\/min leistete und bis 7.300 U\/min drehte. In Verbindung mit einem Leergewicht von nur 935 Kilogramm und einem kurz \u00fcbersetzten 5-Gang-Getriebe ergab sich eine Beschleunigung von 0 auf 100 km\/h in rund acht Sekunden sowie eine H\u00f6chstgeschwindigkeit von 205 km\/h.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Technisch entscheidend war jedoch weniger die reine Motorleistung als vielmehr die Fahrwerksabstimmung. Der Saxo VTS \u00fcberzeugte mit einer pr\u00e4zisen Vorderachse, direkter Servolenkung und einem lebendigen Heck, das insbesondere auf kurvigen Strecken ein hohes Ma\u00df an Agilit\u00e4t bot. Bel\u00fcftete Scheibenbremsen an der Vorderachse unterstrichen den sportlichen Anspruch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seine Wurzeln reichen bis zum Citro\u00ebn AX zur\u00fcck, der bereits durch geringes Gewicht und gutes Handling \u00fcberzeugte. Mit dem Saxo wurde dieses Konzept weiterentwickelt und im VTS technisch auf die Spitze getrieben. Auch optisch blieb das Modell zur\u00fcckhaltend, mit dezenten 16V-Emblemen, spezifischen Leichtmetallfelgen und funktionalen Karosserieanpassungen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Im Laufe seiner Bauzeit von 1996 bis 2003 erhielt der Saxo VTS mehrere Modellpflegen, darunter ein Facelift 1999 mit \u00fcberarbeiteter Frontpartie. Parallel wurde die VTS-Baureihe um leistungsschw\u00e4chere Varianten erweitert, w\u00e4hrend das 120-PS-Modell die Referenz blieb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besondere Bedeutung erlangte der Saxo VTS im Motorsport. In seriennahen Wettbewerben wie dem Saxo Cup oder Rallye-Eins\u00e4tzen bewies das Fahrzeug seine Robustheit und fahrdynamische Qualit\u00e4t. Der serienm\u00e4\u00dfige Motor blieb dabei oft unver\u00e4ndert, was die Effizienz des Gesamtkonzepts unterstreicht. Der Saxo diente zudem als Einstieg f\u00fcr zahlreiche Nachwuchsfahrer und war Teil erfolgreicher Karrieren im Rallyesport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heute ist der Saxo VTS ein gefragtes Sammlerfahrzeug.
