Er ist die Alternative zur schon etwas angejahrten Dauphine, die aber dann doch wegen der anhaltenden Nachfrage noch bis 1968 parallel gebaut wird. Ab 1963 hat Renaults neue Limousine schon ein Vierganggetriebe, das ab 1963 komplett synchronisiert ist und der leistungsf\u00e4hige Vierzylinder mit zun\u00e4chst knapp 1000 Kubikzentimeter Hubraum hat eine f\u00fcnfffach gelagerte Kurbelwelle. Die Zeitgenossen freuen sich \u00fcber 43 PS im etwa 770 Kilogramm leichten Gef\u00e4hrt und echten 130 Stundenkilometer Spitze. Mit 1108 Kubikzentimeter und 86 PS h\u00e4ngt er seinen zivilen Bruder deutlich ab, er l\u00e4uft sagenhafte 170 Kilometer in der Stunde. Und diese Leistungsexplosion wird plakativ zur Schau gestellt: die Sportlimousinen sind \u00fcblicherweise im blauen franz\u00f6sischen Renndress gekleidet, mit zwei breiten wei\u00dfen Streifen \u00fcber Motorhaube und Fahrzeugdach zum Heck. Ein gro\u00dfer &#8222;Gordini&#8220;-Schriftzug am Heck beseitigt letzte Zweifel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1967 gibt es einen Nachschlag: mehr Hubraum (1254&nbsp;ccm), mehr Leistung (88 PS) und ein F\u00fcnfgangetriebe geben dem Gordini nochmal zus\u00e4tzlich die Sporen. 175 Stundenkilometer l\u00e4uft der R8 jetzt und tut dies mit gro\u00dfen zus\u00e4tzlichen Frontscheinwerfern kund. Erw\u00e4hnenswert ist, dass nun ein zweites, 26 Liter fassendes Benzinreservoir den serienm\u00e4\u00dfigen 38-Liter-Tank erg\u00e4nzt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Der kleine blaue Kasten ist zu seiner Zeit &#8222;das&#8220; Breitensportger\u00e4t in Frankreich, kann sich aber auch bei internationalen Wettbewerben deutlich in Szene setzen. 1964 gewinnt Jean Vinatier die herausfordernde &#8222;Tour de Corse&#8220;, 1965 tut Pierre Orsini das gleiche und Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Piot setzt 1966 den Schlusspunkt. Bis 1970 wird der R8 &#8222;Gordini&#8220; gebaut, aber auch jetzt, am 50sten Geburtag, hat die schnelle kleine Limousine nichts an Ausstrahlung eingeb\u00fcsst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
