Mai 1939 \u00fcberquerte Wilbur Shaw auf dem Maserati 8CTF als erster die Ziellinie beim \u201eIndy 500\u201c. Vier Stunden und 20 Minuten in einer Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit von \u00fcber 185 Stundenkilometer lagen hinter ihm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dass ein Siegertyp wie Shaw \u2013 f\u00fcr ihn stehen drei Siege (1937, 1939 und 1940) und drei zweite Pl\u00e4tzen (1933, 1935 und 1938) bei insgesamt 13 Teilnahmen in den Analen \u2013 auf einem Maserati antrat, war der unbestrittenen Leistungsf\u00e4higkeit des italienischen Monoposto geschuldet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alfieri Maserati war schon in den fr\u00fchen 1930er-Jahren Gast bei einer Reihe von Rennen in Amerika. Der Verkauf von Firmenanteilen an die Orsi-Gruppe im Mai 1937 hatte einiges Geld in die Kasse gesp\u00fclt. Dies erlaubte es den Maserati-Br\u00fcdern neue Rennwagen zu entwickeln, denn f\u00fcr die Saison 1938 waren die technischen Regeln f\u00fcr Grand-Prix-Fahrzeuge ge\u00e4ndert worden. Ab nun galten folgende Grenzen: Saugmotoren durften ein Volumen von 4,5 Liter anicht \u00fcberschreiten, f\u00fcr aufgeladene Motoren galt eine Grenze von drei Litern Hubraum.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ernesto Maseratis Antwort war der Dreiliter-Doppelkompressor 8CTF. Dessen Achtzylinder-Reihentriebwerk bestand aus zwei Zylindergruppen mit je vier Brennr\u00e4umen, die einen Zylinderkopf aus einem St\u00fcck besa\u00dfen. Daher leitete sich auch der Name 8CTF ab: acht Zylinder \u201eTesta Fissa\u201c (fester Kopf). Der Dreiliter wurde von zwei Vergasern gespeist und von zwei Kompressoren unter Druck gesetzt. Die beiden Ventile je Zylinder wurden von insgesamt zwei obenliegenden Nockenwellen angetrieben. 350 PS entwickelte das Aggregat zun\u00e4chst und ab 1939 stieg die Leistung auf 365 PS. Bei einem Gewicht von 780 Kilogramm erreichte der italienische Monoposto damit eine Spitzengeschwindigkeit von 290 Stundenkilometer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"810\" height=\"535\" src=\"https:\/\/www.enzo-und-ferdinand.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Maserati-8CTF-Indianapolis-winner_3-c-John-Lamm.jpg\" alt=\"Maserati 8CTF Indianapolis\" class=\"wp-image-3791\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.enzo-und-ferdinand.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Maserati-8CTF-Indianapolis-winner_3-c-John-Lamm.jpg 810w, https:\/\/www.enzo-und-ferdinand.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Maserati-8CTF-Indianapolis-winner_3-c-John-Lamm-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.enzo-und-ferdinand.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Maserati-8CTF-Indianapolis-winner_3-c-John-Lamm-768x507.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.enzo-und-ferdinand.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Maserati-8CTF-Indianapolis-winner_3-c-John-Lamm-120x80.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 810px) 100vw, 810px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Der Maserati 8CTF kam 1938 nach Indianapolis, nachdem er bei einigen Rennen sein Potenzial gezeigt hatte. Das zog eine Reihe neuer Kunden an. So kam der Teammanager Harry W. \u201eCotton\u201c Henning des in Chicago ans\u00e4ssigen \u201eBoyle Racing Headquarters\u201c nach Bologna, um den 8CTF zu kaufen. Nach der Auslieferung wurde der Rennwagen mit gr\u00f6\u00dferen R\u00e4dern und Firestone-Reifen best\u00fcckt und von Boyle Racing neu lackiert.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Er wurde als \u201eBoyle Special\u201c mit Warren Wilbur Shaw am Steuer f\u00fcr das \u201eIndy 500\u201c gemeldet. Nach der drittschnellsten Qualifikationszeit gewann Shaw das Rennen nach hartem Kampf. Es war ein historischer Sieg, da in Indianapolis seit dem Sieg des Engl\u00e4nders Dario Resta im Jahr 1916 auf Peugeot kein europ\u00e4ischer Hersteller mehr gewonnen hatte. Diesem Erfolg geschuldet traten 1940 drei weitere 8CTF in Indianapolis an und Wilbur Shaw gewann 1940 das Rennen erneut.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aufgrund dieser Erfolge wurde der Maserati 8CTF 2014 von der US-amerikanischen HVA (Historical Vehicle Association) als erstes nicht-amerikanisches Fahrzeug in die Annalen der US Library of Congress aufgenommen.
