Die st\u00fcrmische Runde mit einem modifizierten Porsche 917\/30 wird zwar von der FIA nicht anerkannt, bietet aber reichlich Prestige. Das reizt auch die Mercedes-Ingenieure, die schon mit dem Diesel-C 111-III 1977 viele Rekorde gebrochen haben. Es wird kalkuliert, dass 100 PS mehr reichen, um die Porsche-Marke zu knacken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mit dem Selbstz\u00fcnder geht das nicht, der ist technisch am Limit. Der V8-Ottomotor leistet 500 PS (367 kW).<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Der Hubraum des Achtzylinders wird auf 4,8 Liter erweitert, und man spendiert ihm natriumgek\u00fchlte Ventile sowie zwei KKK-Turbolader. Eine Dreischeibenkupplung garantiert, dass das \u00fcppige Drehmoment von 600 Newtonmetern unter Kontrolle bleibt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mit 500 PS, mehr Flossen und zus\u00e4tzlichen Spoilern macht sich der nun zum C 111-IV mutierte Renner auf den Weg nach Nardo. Am 5. Mai 1979 f\u00e4llt der alte Rekord. Der Tacho zeigt 403,978 Stundenkilometer und damit eine neue Bestzeit.
