Der Rennwagen mit der typischen Finne hinter dem Kopf des Fahrers wird von einem 3,4 Liter gro\u00dfen Sechszylinder angetrieben und ist f\u00fcr eine Spitze von nahezu 260 Stundenkilometern gut. Der Jaguar ist eine der ersten selbstragenden Konstruktionen, wenn auch mit einem zus\u00e4tzlichen Gitterrohrahmen, der den Antrieb aufnimmt.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1956 ziehen die Engl\u00e4nder ihr Werksteam aus dem Sport zur\u00fcck. Einige Chassis sind \u00fcbrig und Firmenchef Sir William Lyons beschlie\u00dft mit Blick auf den finanzstarken US-Markt, daraus Stra\u00dfensportwagen zu bauen. Der D-Type wird nur geringf\u00fcgig modifiziert: Die Flosse f\u00e4llt weg, eine Windschutzscheibe ersetzt den kleinen Windabweiser, zudem werden T\u00fcren eingebaut.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dann kommen Seitenscheiben dazu, ein Wetterschutz, eine Gep\u00e4ckbr\u00fccke, verchromte Sto\u00dfstangen sowie die Heckleuchten des XK 140.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Am Abend des 12. Februar 1957 bricht ein Feuer im Werk aus, und neun der geplanten f\u00fcnfundzwanzig Autos werden zerst\u00f6rt.
