Vor allem um die Teilnahme an den Langstreckenrennen der Markenweltmeisterschaft geht es. Das Chassis des Zweiliters besteht zum Teil aus Magnesiumguss und das Mittelteil, ein H aus Aluminiumrohren, ist als Tank ausgebildet. Ein gegossenes V ist hinten angeschraubt und tr\u00e4gt den Motor sowie den Hilfsrahmen f\u00fcr die Aufh\u00e4ngung. Vorn ist das H mit einer Magnesiumschale verschraubt, auf die ihrerseits einen Hilfsrahmen f\u00fcr die Vorderradaufh\u00e4ngung montiert ist. Der Motor ist ein Zweiliter-V8-Motor mit oben liegender Doppelnockenwelle, zwei Ventilen pro Zylinder und leistet 250 PS, das Getriebe hat sechs G\u00e4nge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Auf Basis des Rennsportprototypen entstehen auch Studien f\u00fcr Stra\u00dfensportwagen. Der \u201eStradale\u201c ist der bekannteste und wird in einer Kleinserie gebaut. Die Alfa-Ingenieure Orazio Satta Puliga und Giuseppe Busso konstruieren auf dem 33er-Chassis ein weiteres Fahrzeug, das \u201eScarabeo\u201c hei\u00dfen wird.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dieses hat das gleiche Chassis mit dem H-f\u00f6rmigen Rohrrahmen, wird aber von einem Vierzylinder angetrieben, dem 1,6-Liter-Doppelnockenwellen-Motor aus der Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA. Das aus Aluminium gefertigte Triebwerk ist in einer Einheit mit Kupplung und Getriebe quer hinter dem Cockpit platziert und leistet 115 PS aus 1.570 ccm Hubraum<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mit dem Design der Karosserie beauftragt Alfa Romeo das Design-Studi Officine Stampaggi Industriali (OSI) in Turin. Dort macht sich Sergio Sartorelli an die Arbeit. Er entwirft ein Coup\u00e9 mit einer kanzelf\u00f6rmigen Cockpitverkleidung, die sich als Ganzes nach vorn \u00f6ffnet. Die erste, rechtsgelenkte Version des Alfa Romeo Scarabeo wird erstmals auf dem Pariser Autosalon 1966 gezeigt. Sartorelli zeichnet au\u00dferdem eine zweite, produktionstechnisch vereinfachte Variante.
