Filigrane Chassis, hochmontierte Fl\u00fcgel, die leicht brachen, sowie Benzintanks, die rund um den Fahrer angebracht waren, machten die Monoposti zu rollenden Bomben. Der Blutzoll der Fahrer war entsprechend hoch. So verbrannte der Ferrari-Werksfahrer Lorenzo Bandini beim Grand Prix von Monaco 1967 und der Ausnahmefahrer und zweifache Weltmeister Jim Clark starb bei einem Formel 2-Rennen am 7. April 1968 in Hockenheim. Es war allerh\u00f6chste Zeit, sich \u00fcber die Sicherheit im Formel-Rennsport Gedanken zu machen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1968 wurde in der Redaktion der schweizerischen Fachzeitschrift &#8222;Automobil Revue&#8220; die Idee zu einer Arbeitsgruppe geboren, die sich diesem Thema widmen sollte. Mitglieder dieses Gremiums waren, neben dem Chefredakteur Robert Braunschweig, der italienische Designer Sergio Pininfarina, Ernst Fiala von der Technischen Universit\u00e4t Berlin, der australische Rennarzt Michael Henderson und der Rennfahrer, Ingenieur und Journalist Paul Fr\u00e8re. Zu den Innovationen dieses bemerkenswerten Rennwagens geh\u00f6rten ein Rahmen mit abgestufter Festigkeit, deformierbare Flanken, von der Karosserie eingeschlossene R\u00e4der, ausgesch\u00e4umte Sicherheitstanks, eine automatische Feuerl\u00f6schanlage und ein neuartiges Gurtsystem mit Bremsrollen sowie Helmgurte. Weiterhin waren eine Teleskop-Lenks\u00e4ule, ein selbstausl\u00f6sender Tr\u00e4gheitsschalter f\u00fcr die elektrische Anlage sowie verst\u00e4rkte Treibstoffleitungen mit sich &#8211; im Falle einer Besch\u00e4digung &#8211; selbstt\u00e4tig schliessenden Verbindungsst\u00fccken vorgesehen. Viele dieser Sicherheitsmerkmale sind heute bei Rennwagen selbstverst\u00e4ndlich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Der Name der innovativen Formel 1-Studie geht auf das Konzept einer Sicherheitslimousine aus dem Jahr 1963 mit dem Namen Sigma zur\u00fcck.
