M\u00e4rz 1990 treiben die Stuttgarter die Technik beim \u201eBaby\u201c-Benz 190 auf die Spitze. Der gezeigte 190&nbsp;E&nbsp;2.5-16 Evolution&nbsp;II mit 235&nbsp;PS, kurz \u201eEVO&nbsp;II\u201c genannt, ist die neue Me\u00dflatte f\u00fcr Hochleistungsfahrzeuge in der Kompaktklasse. Die auf 500 Exemplare limitierte Auflage wird als Homologationsmodell f\u00fcr den Motorsport gefertigt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">115.259,70&nbsp;DM sollte der EVO II kosten und daf\u00fcr wird&nbsp; einiges geboten: der 235&nbsp;PS starke Vierzylindermotor M&nbsp;102, entwickelt unter der Leitung von&nbsp; Dr.-Ing.&nbsp;J\u00f6rg Abthoff, basiert auf dem Aggregats des EVO&nbsp;I. Er hat einen kurzen Hub von 82,8&nbsp;Millimeter und eine Bohrung von 97,3&nbsp;Millimeter. Zwei Metallkatalysatoren sind jetzt Serienausstattung. Die maximale Drehzahl liegt bei 7.700&nbsp;U\/min, was unter anderem durch reduzierte Pleuelgewichte, vier statt acht Kurbelwellengegengewichte und das Umstellen des Nockenwellenantriebs von der Duplex- auf eine Einfachrollenkette m\u00f6glich wird. Vom Serien-Reihenvierzylinder des EVO II sind die Triebwerke f\u00fcr die DTM abgeleitet. Deren Leistung w\u00e4chst dabei auf bis zu 373&nbsp;PS. Es ist das letzte Mal, dass ein Renntriebwerk bei Mercedes-Benz entwickelt wird. Um den Abtrieb an der Hinterachse zu optimieren, hat der Spoiler einen herausziehbaren Flap an der oberen Querleiste, die untere Spoilerleiste im Heck l\u00e4sst sich kippen, und der Frontspoiler ist in zwei Stufen in L\u00e4ngsrichtung verstellbar. Der maximale Hinterachsabtrieb durch den Spoiler liegt bei bis zu 57,1&nbsp;Kilogramm. An der Vorderachse sind es bis zu 21,2&nbsp;Kilogramm. Mit Blick auf den DTM-Einsatz erh\u00e4lt&nbsp; der kompakte Sport-Mercedes zudem zus\u00e4tzliche Versteifungen der Karosserie und 17-Zoll-R\u00e4der. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die vom 190\u00a0E\u00a02.5-16 Evolution\u00a0II abgeleiteten Renntourenwagen sind erfolgreich. Sein Deb\u00fct feiert der EVO\u00a0II am 16.\u00a0Juni 1990 auf der N\u00fcrburgring-Nordschleife. Den ersten Sieg erzielt Kurt Thiim am 5.\u00a0August 1990 im ersten Lauf des Flugplatzrennens in Diepholz. Klaus Ludwig wird 1991 auf EVO\u00a0II DTM-Vizemeister, 1992 gewinnt er die DTM-Fahrermeisterschaft vor Kurt Thiim und Bernd Schneider.
