Der 1.120&nbsp;Millimeter flache neue Fl\u00fcgelt\u00fcrer mit 2.620&nbsp;Millimeter Radstand hat eine Karosserie aus glasfaserverst\u00e4rktem Kunststoff (GFK), die mit der Rahmenbodenanlage aus Stahlblech verschraubt ist. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Der C\u00a0111-II entsteht auf Basis des im Herbst 1969 pr\u00e4sentierten C\u00a0111. Technisch zeichnet er sich insbesondere durch den Vierscheiben-Wankelmotor aus, einem echten Sportmotor.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sein Vierfach-Drehkolbenmotor (viermal 602 ccm Durchflusskammervolumen) mit der Entwicklungsnummer M 950 F leistet 350 PS. Seine H\u00f6chstgeschwindigkeit betr\u00e4gt bis zu 300&nbsp;Stundenkilometer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Designentwicklung unter der Leitung von Bruno Sacco und Josef Gallitzend\u00f6rfer beginnt im Sommer 1969. Unter anderem verbessert sich gegen\u00fcber dem Vorg\u00e4nger die Sicht des Fahrers durch Ver\u00e4nderungen an Kotfl\u00fcgeln, Dach und Heckdeckel. Auch die Aerodynamik ist optimiert: Windkanalmessungen ergeben einen gegen\u00fcber dem C&nbsp;111 um acht Prozent verminderten Luftwiderstand. Bereits in London 1969 bietet ein Automobilliebhaber bis zu einer halben Million DM. In den folgenden Monaten treffen sogar Blankoschecks in Stuttgart ein. Doch das Experimentalfahrzeug ist unverk\u00e4uflich ist. Ganz am Anfang seiner Karriere ist der sp\u00e4tere C&nbsp;111, den Mercedes-Benz zun\u00e4chst unter der internen Bezeichnung C&nbsp;101 f\u00fchrt, jedoch f\u00fcr eine ganz andere Zielgruppe bestimmt: Bereits 1963 denkt man \u00fcber einen Wankelmotor in einem \u201ekleinen, preiswerten Sportwagen\u201c nach, der unterhalb des \u201ePagoden\u201c-SL (W&nbsp;113) platziert werden soll.
