Der US-amerikanische Prototyp geht auf Ideen des Rennfahrers Ray Heppenstall zur\u00fcck und kombiniert ein von McKee Engineering entwickeltes Fahrwerk mit einer von Continental Aviation &amp; Engineering gebauten Gasturbine.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die TS325-1-Turbinen sind Prototypen f\u00fcr Milit\u00e4rhubschrauber, wiegen 77 Kilogramm, leisten 325 PS und entwickeln ein Drehmoment von 850 Nm bei einer H\u00f6chstdrehzahl von 57.000\/min. Damit kann der TX in der Dreiliter-Prototypenklasse der Sportwagenweltmeisterschaft starten. Das Geld f\u00fcr den Einsatz gibt Howmet, ein Flugzeugteile-Zulieferer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Schon im zweiten Rennen in Sebring kann sich der Turbinenrenner f\u00fcr die dritte Position qualifizieren, muss aber im Rennen mit einem besch\u00e4digten Triebwerk aufgeben. Im englischen Brands Hatch l\u00e4uft es nicht besser: Wastegate-Defekt. Wegen der Anf\u00e4lligkeit werden die Wagen in die USA zur\u00fcckgeholt und im SCCA-Championship eingesetzt. Das Hauptrennen gewinnen sie schlie\u00dflich mit einem Abstand von elf Runden auf den Zweitplatzierten.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Danach geht es zur\u00fcck zur Sportwagen-Weltmeisterschaft, und auch da gl\u00e4nzt der Turbinenrenner: Heppenstall\/Thompson klettern am Ende als Dritte aufs Podium. Nach der recht erfolgreichen Saison plant Heppenstall f\u00fcr das folgende Jahr, aber Howmet hat das Interesse verloren.
