Beim 24-Stunden-Klassiker an der Sarthe ist es gleich ein Dreifacherfolg der 7-Liter-GT40 Mk.II und das macht Lust auf mehr. Zwar sind alle Ziele erreicht, aber weil so eine Entwicklung nicht programmierbar ist, nehmen die Amerikaner schon fr\u00fch Geld in die Hand, um f\u00fcr die Saison 1967 ger\u00fcstet zu sein.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Man ist auf der Suche nach noch besserer Leistung: Obwohl die Siebenliter des Jahres 1966 echte Siegertypen sind, sollte &#8211; so glaubt es jedenfalls der Ford-Senior-Designer Roy Lunn &#8211; am recht hohen Gewicht weiter gefeilt werden. Deshalb schiebt man zwei Projekte an. Eines \u2013 den X1-Prototyp &#8211; soll McLaren Racing bauen. Der ist ein eher konservativer Roadster, allerdings aus Aluminium.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Das zweite Projekt \u201eExperimental J\u201c erh\u00e4lt ein Chassis, bei dem zum ersten Mal im Rennsport ein Aluminium-Sandwich-Material verwendet wird. Roy Lunn setzt sich nachdr\u00fccklich f\u00fcr das Konzept ein, und so entsteht unter der Leitung von Ed Hull und mit Unterst\u00fctzung der Brunswick Aircraft Corporation bei der Ford-Tochter Kar Kraft ein zweisitziges Rennsport-Coup\u00e9.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Das Chassis wiegt lediglich 40 Kilogramm und ist mit einer Glasfaserkarosserie verkleidet \u2013 die Gewichtsersparung gegen\u00fcber den konventionellen Siebenlitern betr\u00e4gt mehr als 130 Kilogramm.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seinen Auftritt hat das \u201eJ-Car\u201c beim Le-Mans-Vortraining des Jahres 1967, es wird pilotiert von den Neuseel\u00e4ndern Bruce McLaren und Chris Amon. Aufgrund seines Gewichtsvorteils legt es die schnellsten Zeiten vor. Ein Einsatz jedoch erscheint zu riskant, weshalb sich die Dearborner auf die konventionellen GT40 konzentrieren.
