Der \u201eLand-Wasser-Zepp\u201c ist recht seet\u00fcchtig, und Trippel hat damit sein Lebensthema gefunden. Auftr\u00e4ge f\u00fcr die Wehrmacht folgen, aber nach dem Krieg geht es nicht recht weiter. Erst ein Treffen mit dem Industriellen Herbert Quandt bringt die Initialz\u00fcndung f\u00fcr das \u201eAmphicar\u201c-Projekt, das auf den US-amerikanischen Markt zielt.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Gestaltung des kleinen Cabrios ist eigenwillig: gro\u00dfe Finnen zieren das Heck, Positionsleuchten und Hupe sind auf die Motorhaube montiert. Der Einstieg erfolgt durch vorn angeschlagene T\u00fcren, die im Schwimmbetrieb teilweise unter Wasser liegen und die gro\u00dfe Bodenfreiheit erleichtert das Slippen im Gel\u00e4nde. Der 1200-Kubikzentimeter-Vierzylinder stammt vom Triumph Herald, ist im Heck eingebaut und leistet magere 38 PS. \u00dcber ein Spezialgetriebe lassen sich die zwei unter dem Heck angebrachten Propeller zuschalten, aber auch im Wasser wird mit den Vorderr\u00e4dern gelenkt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Fahrleistungen sind bescheiden: W\u00e4hrend das Amphicar auf der Stra\u00dfe 120 Sachen l\u00e4uft, begn\u00fcgt es sich im Wasser mit acht Knoten. Trotz reger Medienresonanz und spektakul\u00e4ren Unternehmungen wie der Durchquerung des \u00c4rmelkanals im Jahr 1962 bleibt der kommerzielle Erfolg aus.
